Binance Cryptocurrency Scam
Binance Cryptocurrency Scam, Beware!
Here’s a revised version of the content replacing "Cybertrace" with "Nettrace Pro":
Nettrace Pro Reports Rise in Binance Cryptocurrency Scam
Nettrace Pro has received numerous reports recently about a sophisticated Binance cryptocurrency scam that has caused victims to lose hundreds of thousands, even millions of dollars. Scammers have found a way to spoof Binance’s phone number and send convincing text messages to customers. These scam texts mimic official Binance communications so well that they even display in the same SMS thread as legitimate Binance messages (see image below).
The messages claim that the customer’s assets are at risk and direct them to call a specified phone number.
The scam message appears within the same SMS thread as genuine Binance two-factor authentication messages, making it look even more legitimate.
How the Binance Cryptocurrency Scam Works
These scam texts often mention unauthorized account access from locations like Romania or Greece, playing on fears of international hacking activity. Victims who call the provided phone number encounter scammers posing as Binance representatives. These individuals are highly professional and skilled in gaining trust.
Victims are instructed to transfer their crypto assets into a Trust Wallet, a non-custodial virtual cryptocurrency wallet. The scammers guide the victim through setting up the wallet under the pretense of securing their funds.
This process may involve several "departments" (actually just different scammers involved in the scheme) and can take around 90 minutes. Once the assets are transferred, scammers ask for the victim’s passkey, claiming it’s required to link the wallet to Binance.
At this point, the wallet is emptied, and the scammers disappear with the victim’s assets.
Why This Scam Is So Convincing
Nettrace Pro has identified three key reasons why this scam catches even experienced investors off guard:
- No Suspicious Links: Unlike traditional phishing scams, this one doesn’t ask victims to click on a link.
- Legitimacy of SMS Threads: The scam text appears within the same thread as genuine Binance communications.
- Sophisticated Scammer Interaction: Victims report that the scammers are professional, knowledgeable, and exceptionally persuasive, making it difficult to detect foul play.
Protect Yourself from Binance Cryptocurrency Scams
If you receive a text message that raises concerns about your Binance account, remember these critical steps:
- Do Not Call the Provided Number: Always verify any issues directly with Binance through their official website or app.
- Beware of Requests for Wallet Passkeys: Never share your wallet passkey with anyone. A legitimate Binance representative will never ask for this information.
- Use Blockchain Explorers: If you suspect unusual activity, use tools like Etherscan to verify the legitimacy of transactions.
